Client Manual

There are many things to consider before both contacting and hiring the services of a painting contractor. The following manual of frequently asked questions will help you avoid disappointment and frustration and make clear how you will find the “RIGHT” painter for your project.

How do I choose the RIGHT painter?

  • Make sure your painter is registered with the Painters Registration Board of WA.
  • Research your painter profile to check credibility, qualifications and experience.
  • Make sure your painter is fully insured.
  • Check what services your painter is providing.
  • Is your painter a Dulux Accredited Painter ?  Check www.duluxaccredited.com.au
  • Is your painter Eco-friendly ? Check www.greenpainters.org.au

What should the RIGHT painter provide?

  • Make sure your painter has provided a clear, written itemised quote outlining a breakdown of the works involved with your project so there can be no misunderstandings. Inclusions and exclusions should be clearly stated.
  • Make sure your painter provides written contract agreements outlining their terms and conditions.
  • Make sure your painter provides a warranty.
  • Make sure your painter provides premium paints only – if you haven’t heard of the paint being used, there is a chance it could be an inferior product.
  • Make sure your painter provides environmentally friendly choices of paint as an option, such as www.ecolour.com.au
  • Make sure your painter can provide a police clearance on request.

What should I look for in a painter?

  • Professionalism - how does your painter present themselves and their business?
  • Reliability – is your painter on time, every time? Or contact you if not?
  • Clean – is your painter wearing a clean uniform – white clothing? Does your painter work cleanly and clean up after each project?
  • Honesty - is your painter telling you what you want to know or what you need to know?  Avoid disappointment by researching your painter’s credibility.
  • Manner – is your painter friendly and listen to what you have to say?
  • Efficiency – is your painter completing your project to time schedule?
  • Service – is your painter exceeding your expectations? Are you receiving the quality of complete service you expected?
  • Price – is your painters price reasonable and competitive for the work involved in your project?
  • Accreditation – Is your painter a Dulux Accredited Painter ? – are they affiliated with the most reputable paint brand DULUX – www.dulux.com.au

How much will the painting cost?

Every painter will have a different price depending on overhead costs, condition of the project, and prices of paint.

Your painter may be able to provide an estimate from a description of a project but will always need to view the project or a plan to provide a firm quote.

A painting cost is only known after your painter views the project or plan and provides a quote. Your painter is providing a service and not a product, so painting costs will vary as all projects are different.

When can the project be started?

Your painter should clearly identify in the outlined quote when the project can be started.

For example: Within two weeks or within one month.

Make it known to the painter when you require the project to commence and the RIGHT painter will always work to suit your requirements.

How long will the painting take?

Let your painter know of your requirements at the quoting stage. The RIGHT painter will work with you to have your projected completed in the timeframe required.

Your painter should always clearly identify in the outlined quote how long the project will take to complete.

What paint should I use?

Ask your painter about paints and what their recommendation is and the reasons why.

Research paint products by:

  1. Going to paint stores and picking up brochures and asking questions to staff.
  2. Checking online websites such as www.dulux.com.au  or www.ecolour.com.au
  3. Ask friends, family or colleagues as they may be able to recommend a paint they have used or their painter has used.
